Rodent Control in Karachi (Chuhe ka Ilaj)
Pest Tech has provided rodent control in Karachi since 2005 by combining three steps: sealing the gaps rats and mice use to get in, tamper-resistant bait stations and traps placed where they travel, and follow-up visits to check activity. Trapping alone never lasts — sealing is what keeps chuhe out.
Signs you have a rodent problem
Rats and mice (chuhe) are active at night and cautious by day. Karachi’s open nalas, market lanes, sewer lines and godowns support large rodent populations that move into homes and shops when food or shelter draws them.
- Droppings along walls, in kitchen drawers or behind stored sacks
- Gnawed plastic, wiring, wooden doors or food packaging
- Scratching or running sounds in false ceilings, roof sheets or behind cupboards at night
- Greasy rub marks along skirting boards and around pipe openings
- Burrows in garden beds, near boundary walls or under slabs
- A strong ammonia smell in stores, kitchens or ceiling voids
Our rodent treatment process
- 01
Rodent survey (free inspection)
We identify the species — roof rat, Norway (sewer) rat or house mouse — and map entry points, runways, burrows and feeding areas across the property, inside and out.
- 02
Plan
You get a written plan showing where stations and traps will go, which gaps will be sealed and how many follow-up visits are included.
- 03
Entry-point sealing
Gaps around pipes, AC lines, drain covers, door bottoms and roof edges are closed with steel wool, wire mesh and sealant so new rodents cannot replace the ones removed.
- 04
Bait stations and traps
Locked, tamper-resistant bait stations go on runways — outside and in service areas — and snap traps or glue boards go where bait is not appropriate, such as food stores and kitchens.
- 05
Follow-up visits
We return to check stations, remove catches, replenish bait and look for new activity until the property is clear.
Methods and baits we use for rats and mice
Rodent control is about placement and exclusion, not just poison.
- Bait stations: locked stations with anticoagulant bait such as bromadiolone or brodifacoum blocks, anchored along walls where rodents travel. Only rodents can reach the bait inside. Used per label.
- Snap traps and glue boards: for kitchens, food stores and anywhere baiting is unsuitable, and for quick knock-down in a small area.
- Proofing: steel wool, mesh and sealant in gaps; door sweeps on stores; mesh over drain openings and vents.
- Hygiene advice: food stored off the floor in sealed containers, waste bins with lids, clutter cleared from store rooms.
Anticoagulant baits act slowly on purpose — rodents do not link the bait to the effect, so the whole family feeds. That is why most infestations take one to two weeks, not one night.
Which rodent do you have?
| Roof rat | Norway (sewer) rat | House mouse | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Found | False ceilings, roofs, AC ducts, trees | Drains, sewers, ground floors, godowns | Kitchens, cupboards, stores |
| Enters by | Climbing walls, wires, pipes | Drains, gaps at ground level, burrows | Gaps as small as a pencil |
| Common in | DHA and Clifton bungalows with trees | Saddar, markets, SITE and Korangi godowns | Flats and offices everywhere |
Rodents in shops, offices and warehouses
A single rat in a pharmacy, cloth shop or data room can cost more than a year of prevention. For commercial properties we run a scheduled programme with numbered stations, a station map and a visit log that auditors and head offices can check. Bait stations stay outside or in non-food areas; food-handling areas get traps only.
Karachi’s industrial areas — SITE, Korangi and Port Qasim — need perimeter stations along boundary walls and loading docks, because rodents move in from open land and drains. See warehouse and godown fumigation for stored-product pests.
Pests covered
- Roof rat (Rattus rattus)
- Norway rat (Rattus norvegicus)
- House mouse (Mus musculus)
- Bandicoot rats in outer areas
Safety for children, pets and food areas
- Bait is always inside locked, tamper-resistant stations that children and pets cannot open.
- No loose bait or pellets are ever left on floors, in kitchens or near food.
- Traps in homes are placed behind appliances and in store rooms, away from children’s reach.
- Stations are numbered and mapped, and we remove catches and dead rodents we can access during follow-ups.
- Tell us about pets and poultry before treatment so we choose trap-only zones where needed.

Most homes are under control in 7–14 days. Severe or commercial infestations can take 3–4 weeks of follow-up visits.
Yes. Sealing entry points is part of every rodent job, because without it new rodents simply replace the ones removed.
Anticoagulant baits often lead rodents to leave the building before dying. Where one dies in a ceiling or wall, we help locate and remove it during follow-ups where it is accessible.

Follow-up visits are part of the programme. If rodents return within the warranty period, we retreat at no extra cost.
