Warehouse & Godown Fumigation in Karachi
Pest Tech has provided warehouse fumigation in Karachi since 2005 for godowns, grain stores and food warehouses in Korangi, SITE and Port Qasim. We fumigate stacks under gas-proof sheets with phosphine, hold the exposure for three to seven days depending on commodity and temperature, then aerate and clear the space before anyone re-enters.
Signs you have a stored-product pest problem
Stored-product insects multiply inside the stock, so by the time they are visible on the surface, the damage inside sacks is usually much larger. Karachi’s heat and humidity speed up their life cycle, especially from spring through the monsoon.
- Small beetles or weevils crawling on sacks, pallets or warehouse walls
- Holes in grain kernels, powdery residue (frass) or clumped flour
- Moths flying around stacks of rice, dry fruit, spices or animal feed
- Webbing on the surface of stock or inside bags
- Warm spots or musty smell inside a stack
- Rejected consignments or buyer complaints about insects in the product
Our stored-product pest treatment process
- 01
Site and stock survey (free)
We identify the commodity, the insect species, stack sizes and the building’s condition, and check whether the space can be sealed for fumigation.
- 02
Fumigation plan
A written plan sets the dose, exposure period, sheeting method, gas monitoring points, safety perimeter and the date the space will be cleared.
- 03
Sheeting and application
Stacks are covered with gas-proof sheets sealed to the floor with sand snakes, warning signs are posted, and phosphine is applied by trained applicators.
- 04
Exposure and monitoring
The fumigation is held for three to seven days, depending on commodity, temperature and target pest, with gas readings to confirm the concentration is maintained.
- 05
Aeration, clearance and records
Sheets are removed in stages, the space is aerated until gas readings are clear, and only then is it handed back, with a fumigation record for your files.
Phosphine sheet fumigation, step by step
Phosphine (released from aluminium phosphide) is the standard fumigant for stored grain and commodities because the gas penetrates deep into stacks and kills insects at every stage, including eggs inside kernels. It is also acutely toxic to people, which is why it is used only by trained applicators, with strict perimeters and gas monitoring.
Why exposure takes days, not hours: insect eggs and pupae are slow to absorb gas, and phosphine works more slowly at lower temperatures. Karachi’s warm months allow shorter exposure; cooler months need longer. Cutting the exposure short is the main reason fumigations fail and insects reappear.
| Commodity | Typical pests | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Rice and wheat | Rice weevil, lesser grain borer, khapra beetle | Deep stacks need longer exposure |
| Flour and feed | Red and confused flour beetles, moths | Clean the building and machinery as well |
| Dry fruit, spices, pulses | Moths, beetles, bruchids | Check packaging for re-infestation after fumigation |
Khapra beetle is a quarantine pest in many importing countries, so traders who export should combine warehouse fumigation with container fumigation before shipment.
Keeping a godown clean after fumigation
Fumigation kills the insects in the stock; it does not stop new ones arriving. After clearance:
- Sweep and vacuum spillage from floors, corners and pallet bases — spilled grain restarts infestation.
- Apply a residual crack-and-crevice treatment to empty warehouse surfaces between batches.
- Keep new stock on pallets away from walls, and first-in, first-out.
- Put rodent stations on the perimeter; rats and grain insects arrive together.
- Inspect incoming consignments before they join clean stock.
Warehouses in Korangi Industrial Area, SITE, Landhi and Port Qasim usually combine fumigation with a monthly commercial pest control programme and perimeter rodent control.
Pests covered
- Khapra beetle
- Rice weevil
- Lesser grain borer
- Red and confused flour beetles
- Indian meal moth
- Cigarette and drugstore beetles
Safety for children, pets and food areas
- Phosphine fumigation is carried out only by trained applicators with gas monitoring equipment; it is never done in occupied homes.
- The fumigated area is sealed, marked with warning signs and kept off-limits to all staff until gas readings confirm it is clear.
- Neighbouring units and offices are informed and checked during exposure.
- Re-entry happens only after aeration and a clearance reading by the technician — never by timing alone.
- Fumigation records, product details and clearance readings are handed over for your files.
How much does warehouse & godown fumigation cost in Karachi?
Warehouse fumigation is priced mainly on the volume of the space or stacks (cubic metres), the commodity and the exposure period, with a minimum per job. Commercial invoices may attract Sindh sales tax. Use the AMC estimator for an instant estimate; the final price is confirmed after a site survey.

Warehouse & Godown Fumigation: frequently asked questions
Usually three to seven days of exposure, plus aeration time. The exact period depends on the commodity, temperature and the insects found.
Phosphine is a gas that dissipates during aeration, which is why it is the standard for stored food commodities. Stock is released only after aeration and clearance readings.
No. The fumigated area is sealed and off-limits until the technician confirms clearance. Other parts of a large site can stay in use if they are separated and monitored.
Gas-proof sheets hold the fumigant around the stack at the right concentration for the full exposure period. Leaky sheeting is the most common cause of failed fumigation.
Yes — see container and export fumigation. Many traders fumigate the warehouse stock and then the container before shipment.
Yes. You receive a record of the commodity, product, dose, exposure dates and clearance for your files and buyers.
