High-rise living in Johar

Gulistan-e-Johar grew quickly from open land into one of Karachi’s densest apartment districts, with projects around Johar Mor, Rabia City, Kamran Chowrangi and along the Rashid Minhas Road side. That history explains the pests:

• Tall blocks with shared shafts let khatmal and German cockroaches move vertically between flats.
• Hostels and shared flats near the universities and colleges have high turnover, which brings bed bugs in luggage and furniture.
• Remaining open plots and construction sites push rats and snakes towards ground floors and parking areas.
• Rooftop and underground tanks in every building become mosquito breeding sites in dengue season if not sealed.
